Benefits of Veritec's 2D Codes - VeriCode® and VSCode®

  • More data capacity (VSCode® has capacity of over 4,000 bytes) compared to 1D bar codes.
  • Capable of storing biometric data.
  • Quick decoding speed.
  • Portable data storage container- freedom from dependency on central database.
  • Scaleable in size to fit available space.
  • Omni-directional - Codes can be read in any orientation or skew.
  • Can be directly marked on most materials, including metal, glass and plastic.
  • Custom design capability with unique encryption techniques to be incorporated within the code for additional security.
  • Can be used with or within electronic media such as RFID, or Smart Chip for data storage and access.
  • Can be stand-alone data storage or tied to a central database.
  • Symbols contain high percentage of Error Detection And Correction (EDAC) between 15% to 25% ensuring valid information upon decoding.

VeriCode®
VeriCodeFeature
VERICODE® Symbol
is a small, checkerboard-like matrix capable of holding more than 500 bytes of data. Its elements consist of a solid border frame, which serves as the outside border of a data matrix field. Within this data frame is the internal data field. This field is comprised of single cell units representing binary data. There is an invisible border surrounding the data field called the "quiet zone". The quiet zone border is the width of at least one data cell. The quiet zone is critical to separating the data field from surrounding noises.

The VeriCode® symbol is the most robust and space efficient of all machine-readable symbologies because of its internal structure and its solid border frame. The VeriCode® symbol is capable of containing any information that can be converted into a stream of binary data. The symbol can be a stand alone data field or key to a database file.

The VeriCode® symbol can be encoded and marked on approximately 98% of all materials. There are over 35 different methods of marking the VeriCode® symbol.

Examples are:

  • Thermal printers - produce labels on heat sensitive paper.
  • Laser Etching - is the most versatile method of marking the VeriCode®.
  • The dot-peen - directly marks by creating small indentation on the material surface.
  • Micro abrasive blasting - is a non-contact process that uses fine abrasive particles to pelt through a fine stream of air through a small nozzle tip to engrave the VeriCode® symbol directly onto the material surface.

Once the VeriCode® symbol is marked on an item the symbol can be decoded using CCD camera vision technology. Once decoded information can be used to track, trace, sort, control, program, match, index, access, authenticate, instruct robotics, validate, assemble, verify, inspect, orient or update. The CCD camera vision technology allows information within the Symbols to be decoded instantly. The list of applications and resulting benefit is limitless.

Some key features of the VeriCode® symbol

VeriCodeSymbologyThe size of the VeriCode® is variable, the amount of information within the VeriCode® symbol is user selectable, and data density is not a function of the size of the code. Therefore, the user can select the size of code based upon space requirements and not on the amount of data that needs to be encoded. In contrast the traditional 1D barcode requires more space each time the information is increased .

The 2 dimensional VeriCode® symbol can be encoded in any 360-degree orientation and no manual positioning of the code is necessary. This omni directional feature allowed the VeriCode® symbol to be used for applications such as orientation of parts during automated assembly processes. Proper orientation can be assured at any angle when parts are marked with the VeriCode® symbol.

The code can also be utilized to directly communicate information to robotics in automated environments.

The VeriCode® symbols skew versatility gives it the capability of being captured and decoded at up to a 60% angle off the horizontal plane. This permits a range of flexibility while still obtaining accurate data.

Any language or character sets can be encoded into the VeriCode® or VSCode® symbols

VeriCode® symbols can be square or rectangular in shape.

VeriCode® symbols are not dependant upon the accuracy of the borders on the edges of the code, or of data cells in order to return reliable information to the user.

VeriCode® symbols can be configured for re-construability with Error Detection And Correction (EDAC), so that 100% of the data in the code is returned even if up to 35% of the symbol becomes damaged or is missing. Because of this feature it can determine if an error is present in the code. In addition, this features assures that the correct information is recovered during the decode process, and that the VeriCode® symbol will maintain its integrity and give no false data.

This feature is important where absolutely accurate information is critical. The VeriCode® will either deliver accurate information or no information. It will not return inaccurate or unreliable information to the user.
