Mark Silbernagel

Mark SilbernagelMr. Silbernagel has as over 30 years experience in software engineering, systems architecture, and design. He specializes in internet enabled systems empowering businesses and consumers in banking and financial transactions. In addition, Mark has extensive knowledge of supporting technologies such as OO tools and languages, internet and cellular telephony, commercial and financial regulatory compliance, banking systems, as well as network, server, and application security. He is co-inventor of one issued and many pending patents; applying to banking technologies and methods, as well as for phone based Mobile Banking and security applications. Implementation of these ideas led to a Visa® Debit product being awarded runner-up for the 2006 “Oscard for Technology”, for the innovative use of cell phones to control the card.

Prior to joining Veritec, Mr. Silbernagel served as a partner and Executive VP of RBA International Inc., as well as Technology Development Manager for Hewlett Packard, Mentor Graphics, and Sequent Computer. He was an architect for HP's global systems and Internet security policies. He was the Systems Network Architect and Project Support Manager for one of the world's largest object-oriented development projects (over 2,000 engineers, 10+ million lines of code). He has been a key speaker at Interop.

While at HP, Mark was a technological visionary. He led innovation to automate “lights out” for the data center, and for engineering design simulations at a printer manufacturing facility in Vancouver WA. In doing so, uptime was increased by eliminating as much as possible human interactions. This allowed the plant to engage in a new manufacturing philosophy then known as “Just in Time Manufacturing.” These efforts received a great deal of notoriety and acclaim throughout HP.

Mark led architecture and design of two generations of technology behind one of the first US pre-paid phone cards, for Bottom Line Telecommunications. BLT was later bought by MCI WorldCom. This work included technology for the billing system for NTT DoCoMo pre-paid cell phones.

In 2003, Mark assisted in a Global IT Security Operations analysis for VISA Inc. Out of that analysis came an operational model for Global IT security that was adapted by the Visa® Executive Management team.
